EU - What the hell happened? (Pt II)

Okay, such is our way we seemed to have stirred up a rather nasty hornets nest with our last post about the cancellation of dates - so we’ve decided to clarify a lot further - for better or for worse, you decide.

As some of you may know, Danny had to leave the tour after the UK dates due to a family emergency.  We knew about this problem 3 days into the tour (Solingen, to be precise) and set to work about salvaging the tour and doing as many shows as possible.  Both bands went through a myriad of possibilities: No Omega continuing on after the UK dates with a different band, cutting the entire short right there and then or finding a way to replace Danny and go on for as long as possible, if not the entire tour, without him.  As Gareth was already not on the tour with us, there was a strong possibility that we would have to leave the tour and No Omega go on without us.

Thankfully, we had a drummer (in this case, Sam from The Long Haul) who would take Danny’s place and continue the tour.  While he was not available for the entire tour (he had his own shows to do from the 28th of March), the lions share of the tour would continue.

As these logistics were being sorted out, the issue of border passes came up.  While we had a pass from Croatia, we were still waiting for the Serbia one.  Serbia was vital, as we explained in our previous post.  We were in constant contact with the relevant agents but no real progress was being made.  With the thought of Danny’s replacement needing to return for his own shows in our mind, the decision was made to cut at the 18th.  Again, geography played in important role (Hamburg being north enough for us to drive No Omega back to Stockholm in time to drive back to the UK - this is nearly a 3 day drive).  If we had the passes in our hands when this decision was being considered, we have no doubt in our minds we would have pushed as far as we could and made other arrangements to ensure both No Omegas travel home and our travel home, would be made as late as possible as to ensure as many dates continuing unhindered.

As it was, we did not have the passes.  We cannot predict the future.  We cannot idley afford 4 nights in a hotel because someone dropped the ball somewhere.

We’re not pointing fingers and we’re not naming names.  We’re just making it very clear that we made the decisions we made with the information we had at the time and we could do no more than that.
